Is the Electric Vehicle a New Mainstream? Is The Internal Combustion Engine Vehiles Era at its End?

BMP Autoservice EV vs Combustion Engine

Lately we've been hearing a lot of talk about electric cars... There's Tesla's everywhere now we are seeing Ford, Chevy, BMW, Mercedes, Polestars, Porsche, Audi, all getting in electric cars now. And it seems like it may be the next phase in automotive community. For example Europe talking about electrifying all of their cars in the near future, US is also doing the same thing, Government pushing us to everybody to go electric. But is it really going to work? Is it feasible?

Of course, nothing wrong with electric cars out there. They are faster than gasoline cars, quite enough, full of tech and so on. Cool things, actually! But we don't think it's going to be a mainstream as a power outreach says from all corners around us these days. Why? We thing this will take a while until it will happen. And even then it's questionable if electric vehicles will ever become mainstream, if it take over the internal combustion engine vehicles especially in America.

Battery Chaging Infrastructure Issues

There are some of the points why we are thinking that the EVs are not going to take over. The first thing is a problem with charging. Obviously if you live in a city when it comes to electric charging vs gas stations it's not a big problem at all. And you'll not have any range anxiety. But when you go to a long trip out of city there might be a problem with charging stations between big cities. There are some huge gaps between cities and towns in the electric vehicle infrastructure. Because this is not Europe, this is a big country! If you drive the gasoline vehicle out there you have no problem to refill your tank rather then EV when you have to plan a trip very carefully on a long range. And the only thing you need just to get the next exit to start pumping gas and it takes as little as 5 minutes to get back to the road with full tank. Rather than EV charging stations so far each from other. So one big point is the infrastructure for charging stations so weak at least for now.

Most of the people does not have house with a garage, people living in apartment complexes or condos and park their cars on a street curb. So how to get a safe charging overnight? Run a cable across the walkway? As you see there are a lot of questions with Eva as a mainstream even in the future.

Don't Overpay

Another aspect is a price comparison between EVs and traditional cars. EVs are expensive, really they are! Battery replacement is expensive and this is even not the engine or other parts of power train or computer, just a battery will cost you around 13-16K. And overall in a long term looks like electric cars depreciate a little bit more in dollar value than the combustion engine counterpart.

Enviromental Issues With Battery

Also when you run the electric vehicle in a cold weather the heater consumes a lot (up to 41%) of the battery charge just for heat your interior! The same with really hot weather, like in California, Arisona or Florida the EV AC consumes a lot of battery charge to cool this thing down during the trip. As the result, his is really decrease the range amount between charges.

So as a conclusion we thing the internal combustion engine cars will stay with us for a while especially a state side just because of those issues. The all electric car phenomenal is happening right now is kind of "overpriced" we think. But it is just our opinion of course. Stay safe out there, take care of your car at time to be a safe driver. Any technical issues with your combustion engine vehicle please feel free to share with us. We are here to help!
